Before operation, carefully place the punched filter paper between each filter plate and frame. Generally, 1-2 sheets of filter paper are used per layer, depending on the filtration requirements and the quality of the filter paper. When placing the filter paper, avoid misalignment to prevent leakage and affect the filtration effect.
The filter paper should be dried before use, with a drying temperature of around 120°C.
When using used filter paper, it must be dried and free of any damage. Note that the side with filter residue (i.e., the dirty side) should face the filter frame, not the filter plate, to prevent the residue from being washed off during filtration and contaminating the filtered oil.
When the filtration pressure is high and the filter paper shows signs of breaking, a filter cloth can be lined on the side against the filter plate to increase the strength of the filter.
After placing the filter paper, turn the handwheel to compress the filter plates. Only one person is allowed to tighten the plates, and the tightening handle must not be extended to avoid damaging the machine.
Close the sampling nozzle. If the user has a valve on the oil discharge pipe, open the valve. Connect the motor power supply to start the oil filter machine. The normal working pressure of the oil filter varies with the viscosity of the oil and the resistance of the discharge pipe, generally in the range of 0.05-0.3MPa. The initial filtration pressure is low, and as filtration time increases, the accumulation of filter residue and the absorption of moisture by the filter paper cause the pressure to gradually increase. When it reaches a certain level (depending on the user's requirements for the oil), the filter paper should be replaced.
During the oil filtration process, when extracting oil samples, you can unscrew the oil nozzle to take samples.
When stopping the machine, first open the air inlet valve, and after the oil outlet pipe has no oil, stop the machine, close the inlet and outlet oil valves, stop the oil pump, loosen the compression device, remove the filter paper piece by piece, clean the filter residue in the filter paper and frame, replace the filter paper, re-clamp and tighten, and cover the oil tank. Finally, clean the coarse filter, re-cover and tighten the bolts after cleaning, and set aside for next use.
Plate and frame oil filter maintenance and safety technology
1. Keep the machine clean at all times.
2. The filter plates and frames are fragile; handle them with care.
3. When moving the oil filter, do not move too fast to avoid severe impact that could damage the equipment.
4. Regularly add lubricating oil to the compression screw and nut.
5. When using the oil filter, ground the motor housing to prevent accidents due to poor motor insulation.
6. Regularly check the connecting bolts of the motor brackets to prevent loosening.
7. If insufficient oil filtration is found, check the following 5 aspects:
(1) Check for air leaks in the suction pipe, coarse filter, oil inlet valve, and joints.
(2) The suction pipeline is too long (generally not exceeding 5 meters) or the pipe diameter does not meet specifications.
(3) Check whether the oil inlet pipe and coarse filter mesh are blocked.
(4) Check whether other accessories are installed in the suction pipe section, causing excessive resistance.
(5) Check whether the gear pump and safety valve are loose or not tight.
Detailed operating instructions for plate and frame oil filter
I. Adjustment and test run
a) The placement of filter plates, frames, and filter paper on the filter bed should be as follows: place three sheets of filter paper near the two end thrust plates and the compression plate, then place the filter plate, and then alternate the filter plates and frames in sequence, with two sheets of filter paper sandwiched between each plate and frame. One side of the filter plates and frames has triangular support ears, and the other side has arc-shaped support ears, which are used to support on the two support rods (plates).
The triangular ears and arc ears of the filter plates and frames must be on the same side as those on the compression plate, and the triangular ears must be installed on the liquid inlet side. If placed incorrectly, the filtration capability will be lost. Both the filter plates and frames should be positioned with the arc support ear side against the support rod.
The filter paper should be clean and dry. If using cleaned and dried old filter paper, place the dirty side of the paper facing the filter frame to prevent unclean impurities from being washed off and contaminating the filtered oil. After installing the filter plates and frames, recheck the positions for correctness, then rotate the handle to compress. When compressing, do not extend the compression handle, and only one person should operate. Finally, cover the oil pan lid. (Filter paper dimensions are shown in the attached figure at the end)
b) When connecting the power supply, the entire machine should be grounded. Check that all connecting parts are not loose. Rotate the machine manually forward and backward for three to four turns to check for any jamming. After everything is normal, jog the motor to check that the oil pump rotation direction matches the arrow direction; reverse rotation is not allowed.
c) Connect the oil inlet and outlet of the oil filter to the oil reservoir via rubber hoses, open all control valves, close the return oil valve and oil drain nozzle, and only then can the machine be started.
d) After running for one minute, the pressure gauge pointer should be around 0.25MPa, which is normal. If the pointer exceeds 0.5MPa, stop the machine to check for faults, and restart after troubleshooting.
II. Operating procedures
a) The operator must be familiar with the machine's performance and debugging methods.
b) Clean the pipeline system and the machine's internal cavity.
c) After the machine starts, frequently check the pressure gauge readings and the machine's operation. If any abnormality occurs, stop the machine immediately, troubleshoot, and then restart.
d) According to the oil filtration capacity, after circulating and filtering 2-3 times the oil volume, unscrew the oil drain nozzle, take an oil sample for testing, until it is qualified.
e) After working for a certain period, if the pressure rises above 0.5MPa or the pressure drops compared to the initial pressure, the filter paper may be broken or the filter paper has absorbed a large amount of moisture causing capillary pores to expand; both conditions indicate loss of filtration capability.
f) The safety valve has been inspected and adjusted before leaving the factory and sealed with a lead seal. Do not disassemble it arbitrarily. If adjustment is truly necessary, it must be tested and qualified before continued use.
g) During operation, pay attention to the oil level. If there is excessive oil in the oil pan, open the return oil valve to drain the oil from the pan, then close the return oil valve.
h) When the oil contains excessive moisture, heat the oil to evaporate some of the moisture, then cool to room temperature before filtering.
i) After filtration is complete, clean the machine, apply anti-rust oil, and store in a dry and ventilated place.
III. Machine maintenance and care
a) All sealing surfaces should be coated with anti-rust oil when not in use to prevent rusting (e.g., filter plates, frames, thrust plates, compression plates).
b) Clean the filter mesh, trapezoidal screw, etc., and apply anti-rust oil.
c) All pipe joints should be wrapped and sealed to prevent foreign objects from entering the pipeline system.
d) During machine movement, prevent impact and tipping to avoid damaging the machine and reducing its performance.
e) The product should not be stored outdoors to avoid wind, rain, sun, dew, and dust. If conditions are limited and it is unavoidable, take rain protection measures.
IV. Usage restrictions
This machine is prohibited from use under the following conditions:
a) Altitude exceeding 1000 meters.
b) Ambient temperature higher than +40°C or lower than -10°C.
c) Relative air humidity greater than 85%.
d) In places requiring explosion-proof, an oil filter with an explosion-proof motor must be selected.
e) Environments without rain protection or filled with water vapor.
f) Filtering gasoline, kerosene, and volatile liquids containing acid or alkali components.
V. Simple fault troubleshooting methods
Fault cause Troubleshooting method
1. Oil leakage at pipeline connections Tighten the nuts or replace the sealing gaskets
2. Insufficient oil filtration 1. Clean the oil filter
2. Check whether the same lugs of the filter plates and frames are placed on the same side and match the lugs of the front compression plate
3. Check whether the two holes of the filter paper align with the two holes of the filter plate
3. Safety valve leaks and pressure cannot rise 1. Adjust the spring pressure to the safety valve opening pressure
2. Clean the safety valve and grind it with emery
